Close to two thousand runners and their families channeled their inner zombie, raising more than $141,000 for bone cancer research through Rattle Me Bones presented by Nordion, a subsidiary of Sterigenics International.
The 5K and 10K runs saw hundreds of participants, each having a fearfully good time. The shorter 2K run was the perfect way for families to enjoy the event together, with all runners having the opportunity to detour through the Zombie Zone where hundreds of volunteers took particular pleasure in scaring, howling, moaning and stumbling, entertaining all who attended.
“We are so pleased with the success of the run and thrilled with the community involvement and participation in support of bone cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital,” said Tim Kluke, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
Since 1993, Rattle Me Bones has raised more than $1.2 million in support of The Ottawa Hospital. Funds raised by this year’s participants will support research focusing on ways to treat bone cancer, developing approaches to prevent cancers from spreading to the bone, and optimizing bone cancer surgery techniques.
“We are so proud to be the title sponsor of this event which funds important cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital,” said Scott McIntosh, President of Gamma Technologies and Corporate Services at Nordion, sponsor of Rattle Me Bones. “Giving back to the community is important to us, but so is engaging our staff in healthy lifestyles and activities for the whole family. ”
